Special Features of a Surgical Wound
We at Alpha Wundexperten understand the special nature of surgical wounds. Unlike other wounds, they are caused by an intentional medical procedure. Our service ensures optimal wound healing through excellent care.
Wound Care After Surgery at Home
In many cases, wound healing takes place at home – only initial care is provided in the clinic directly after the operation. Sometimes a so-called wound revision is necessary to prevent complications. Wound revision includes thorough inspection of the wound and possibly surgical treatment of the wound to prevent healing disorders and infections. This special attention is particularly important when the patient suffers from Epidermolysis bullosa.
The Two Types of Surgical Wounds
Experts distinguish between a closed and an open surgical wound:
Surgical Wound Care for an Open Wound
The wound management and treatment of an open surgical wound is significantly more complicated. After removing dead or nerve-free tissue, the nursing staff applies wound dressings to support wound healing through a moist wound environment. Dressing changes are performed regularly under aseptic conditions.
Treatment process or Course of treatment
Our comprehensive service for optimal wound healing
A structured treatment process is crucial for the fast and complication-free healing of wounds. We provide personalized care to optimize the healing process.
1

Consultation & Assessment
The first consultation includes a thorough examination of the wound as well as a medical history to optimally plan the healing process.
2

Individual Treatment Plan
Based on the examination, an individual treatment plan is created, taking into account the patient’s specific needs and risks.
3

Treatment & Monitoring
During the treatment, the wound is regularly monitored to ensure healing progress and to make necessary adjustments.
4

Follow-up & Care
After the treatment, regular follow-up is provided to detect potential complications early and to support long-term healing.

What Happens Besides Wound Revision After Surgery
Three factors that can cause delayed surgical wound healing are central:
How We Care for Closed Surgical Wounds
We cover the wound closed with stitches with a protective wound dressing. Additionally, we clean the wound until the stitches or staples are removed after 5 to 15 days. The treatment focuses on minimizing the risk of infection and quickly achieving a cosmetically acceptable scar.
Complex wound care at home after surgery
Home wound care requires particularly extensive expertise when it comes to treating a surgical wound. Our experts know how to support wound healing after an operation. Naturally, the primary wound care takes place immediately after treatment in the hospital. We ensure the continued wound care at home.
Help When the Surgical Wound Still Discharges After 3 Weeks
As part of the personal wound visit, we pay attention to how long a wound continues to discharge after the operation is completed. While a closed wound should only discharge for a few days, it can be normal if an open surgical wound still discharges after 3 weeks.
Our medical staff checks for any inflammatory reactions. Typical signs are local redness and warming of the wound area. Fever indicates an advanced wound infection.
We involve a doctor when the following occurs:
A Challenge – Open Wounds in the Anal Area After Surgery
Despite extensive experience, an open wound in the anal area after surgery is a challenge even for the Alpha Wundexperten. Typically, blood and mucus are consistently present on the stool and on the wound dressings. This can persist for up to 8 weeks.
The most important thing is to ensure a soft but formed stool so that the patient can empty the anal canal without strong pressure. The consistency of the stool is more important than the frequency of bowel movements. Bowel movements can occur multiple times a day or only every other day.
Tips to Accelerate Internal Wound Healing After Surgery
For surgical wounds, internal healing is just as important as external wound healing. Therefore, the patient must avoid intensive physical training in the days following the surgical procedure. Additionally, a healthy lifestyle is important. The patient should avoid nicotine and alcohol and pay attention to their diet.
